"Preserving a wonderful building with a rich heritage"
A building like St Martin's Church takes a lot of care and attention to keep it in good order. Whilst the church is lucky to have had wonderful people looking after it in recent years, inevitably, the building does continue to have problems. Some of the projects over the coming years will include...

The South Clerestory Roof
Due to an area of approximately 35 m2 being soft underfoot, there is the strong feeling that the timbers beneath the lead could be rotten. This will require the stripping of the area and undertaking the timber repairs. New lead will then need to be laid on to the roof.
Estimate - £79,000

The North Clerestory Roof
There are three areas of this roof that suffer water ingress from time to time. There have been several attempts to address this but without success. The latest advice is that the lead will need to be stripped to see if the problem can be addressed. It is hoped that the existing lead will be able to be relaid.
Estimate - £1,800

The Battlements on the Nave Roof
The battlements along the nave roof have suffered considerable weather damage in recent years and are now in a very poor state. Whilst they are stable, they need extensive care to ensure they remain so. There are 16 battlements in total with each one needing specialist masonry care.
Estimate - £23,000
